All the Sweet Tree range of soaps and butters are handmade using only the best ingredients with just the right blend of oils, and retention of glycerine, to create a rich, creamy, non-drying lather. Once you've tried one of my handmade soaps you won't want to return to detergent based soaps as the pure and natural nature of these handmade soaps doesn't strip your skin of natural oils. No more dull, dry and tight skin.
All the base ingredients used have their own particular qualities and these are described below.
Base Ingredients.
Castor Oil is a great addition to many recipes for its humectant properties. A humectant is a substance that attracts and holds moisture, thus giving a moisturising effect to the skin. Once this oil is converted into soap it is known under the official name of sodium castorate.
Cherry Kernel Oil Rich in vitamins A & E and is light and moisturising, with natural antioxidants.
Cocoa Butter Yep - the same as in chocolate bars! Easily absorbed by the skin and contains many trace elements, with fabulous moisturising abilities. As with shea butter it's excellent for dry, aging or damaged skin and can produce a moisture retaining skin barrier. It has antioxidant properties and can help to reduce production of IgE (immunoglobulin) so may help with dermatitis.
Coconut Oil Used for its ability to produce a wonderfully soft and fluffy lather with moisturising properties. Once this oil is converted into soap it is known under the official name of sodium cocoate.
Mango Butter Similar qualities to coco butter, but is thought to be especially good for mature skin and may help restore elasticity.
Olive Oil Used for its humectant moisturising effects. It attracts water to the skin surface without interfering with skin function. Once this oil is converted into soap it is known under the official name of sodium olivate.
Organic Palm Oil Use to produce a hard bar of soap and also to add longevity to the lather. It can also act as a humectant. The oil is obtained from the pulp of the fruit of the oil palm. The palm oil I use is obtained from Columbia from a sustainable source. Columbia is at present working towards achieving certification for their ethical harvesting practices. Once this oil is converted into soap it is known under the official name of sodium palmate.
Shea Butter Used for its skin moisturising and nourishing effects, with its barrier protection and possible UV ray protection. Good for soothing rough, dry or damaged skin and can help soften dry or damaged hair and dry scalp.
Added extras
Fruit Wax Including grapefruit, lemon and orange, similar to lanolin but suitable for vegetarians/vegans. It provides moisture regulation and a barrier protection and these qualities are reproduced for skin and hair. There are also some anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial qualities.
Honey Honey has many properties, not just in its role as sweetener and spread for toast. It acts as a humectant, and is thought to have considerable antioxodant properties, along with antibacterial and skin healing properties.
Tussah silk Natural raw silk used to add a silkiness to the lather. Also helps to make a great shaving soap.
The use of essential oils should be avoided in all very young children, particularly under the age of 3 years.
Essential oils and their qualities would fill a book covering this website alone. There are many resources available to read about these oils and a general internet search will provide you with hours of reading.
